The United Arab Emirates and the Gabonese Republic have taken a major step toward deepening economic ties with the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, aimed at accelerating bilateral trade, expanding investment, and strengthening private-sector collaboration across key industries.
The agreement was witnessed in Abu Dhabi by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Gabonese President His Excellency Brice Oligui Nguema, underscoring the strategic importance both nations place on advancing their economic partnership.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed described the CEPA as a milestone in UAE-Gabon relations, noting that it will open new markets for UAE exporters, connect businesses to global supply chains, and create high-value investment opportunities that support sustainable growth. He also highlighted the agreement’s role in reinforcing the UAE’s position as a global trade hub and strengthening economic links with Africa.
Signed by UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and Gabon’s Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt and Investment Thierry Minko, the CEPA focuses on reducing tariffs, removing trade barriers, facilitating investment flows, and promoting collaboration between private-sector entities, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises.
Economic ties between the two countries have grown rapidly in recent years. Non-oil trade reached USD 320.7 million in 2025, more than double the level recorded in 2021.
The agreement aligns with the UAE’s wider strategy to expand partnerships across Africa, where non-oil trade totalled USD 112 billion in 2024, a 34 percent year-on-year increase. The UAE is also the continent’s largest source of new foreign direct investment, with more than USD 110 billion invested since 2019.
Leaders from both nations also witnessed the announcement of memoranda of understanding covering defence cooperation, the establishment of a joint UAE-Gabon Business Council, and a women’s empowerment programme.
