The UAE Government has launched the "Data Index", a benchmark designed to enhance government performance in managing and governing national data while aligning with global best practices. Developed by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre (FCSC) in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office, the index aims to ensure high-quality, globally benchmarked data and statistics across federal government entities.
The index is part of the UAE's Performance Management System and focuses on three core areas:
- Data Governance: Establishing robust regulatory and operational frameworks.
- Statistical Best Practices: Enhancing data quality.
- Digital Transformation: Improving data production processes within federal entities.
Unveiled at an FCSC-organized event attended by 120 specialists from 35 federal entities, the launch coincides with the "Unified UAE Numbers" project, which aims to improve data transparency, accuracy, and reliability across various sectors.
Mohammed Hassan, Executive Director of the Statistics and Data Science Sector at FCSC, emphasized that the index supports informed decision-making at all levels, reflecting the UAE’s ambition to lead globally in strategic data utilization and sustainable development.
