Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, spotlighted the UAE’s remarkable achievements in global competitiveness during the session ‘Global Competitive Edge in an Ever-changing World’ at the 55th World Economic Forum in Davos, held under the theme ‘Collaboration for the Intelligent Age’ from January 20 to 24.
The UAE delegation, led by H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture, comprises over 100 members, including government officials and private sector representatives. The session addressed strategies for nations to sustain competitiveness amidst technological advancements, environmental challenges, and evolving economic models, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and resilience.
Bin Touq underscored the UAE’s accomplishments, including top rankings in 223 global indicators in 2024 and a leap to 7th place in the World Competitiveness Report 2024.
“The UAE's robust economy, supported by advanced technologies and national strategies, reflects a high level of security, stability, and quality of life,”
he stated.
Highlighting diversification efforts, he noted that non-oil sectors now contribute 75% of the economy. Key sectors such as fintech, AI, and advanced manufacturing exemplify the UAE’s transition to a knowledge-based model. He also stressed the importance of digital transformation, fostering startups, and public-private collaboration to navigate global economic shifts and challenges.
The UAE’s active engagement at Davos 2025 reinforces its commitment to driving sustainable development and innovation across technology, energy, trade, and environmental sustainability, positioning the nation as a global economic leader.
