The 4th Emirates Health Economics Society (EHES) Annual Conference 2024 recently concluded in Dubai, addressing pressing global and regional health economics challenges.

The event focused on sustainable healthcare financing and value-based healthcare systems, positioning the UAE as a leader in health economics.

Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Director-General of Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE), highlighted the UAE's visionary approach to developing a sustainable healthcare sector. She emphasized the importance of the National Health Account in systematically monitoring health expenditure and shaping evidence-based policies that promote sustainable financing and effective resource allocation.

Al Kaabi also stressed EDE’s commitment to innovative financing models for new treatments and periodic economic studies on pharmaceutical pricing, along with leveraging artificial intelligence for health data management.

Dr. Sara Al Dallal, President of EHES, described the conference as a strategic platform for addressing healthcare challenges. The sessions featured discussions on value-based healthcare systems and included health ministry representatives from across the Gulf, as well as experts from the U.S., Canada, Germany, and France.

Dr. Mohamed Farghaly, a Professor of Medicine, underlined the importance of balancing healthcare quality with cost-efficiency, a major focus of the event. Sessions also delved into healthcare financing, catastrophic health spending, and the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

The conference aimed to foster collaboration among specialists to tackle shared healthcare challenges in the Gulf, enhancing the UAE’s role as a regional leader in innovative and sustainable healthcare solutions.
