UAE Hosts Groundbreaking GCC Strategy Workshop on Drug Control

The UAE Ministry of Interior is hosting a pivotal workshop for the GCC Strategy for Combating Drugs (2025-2028), from September 16-19 at Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi.

This event, held in collaboration with the GCC General Secretariat and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), aims to strengthen regional cooperation and create a unified approach to combating drug-related issues in the GCC.

Prominent figures at the workshop include Jasim Al-Badawi, Secretary-General of the GCC, Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Interior, and Judge Dr. Hatem Aly, Regional Representative of the UNODC for the GCC. Representatives from various GCC nations, UN consultants, and anti-drug experts also attended.

Al-Badawi emphasized the workshop’s importance, citing the need for collective action to combat drug smuggling, which undermines social and economic stability. He stressed the significance of regional cooperation, stating,

"Our presence today reflects our joint commitment to address one of the biggest challenges facing our societies."

Major General Al Khaili reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to adopting advanced technologies and proactive measures to combat drug threats. He underscored the need for a unified GCC strategy to ensure the safety and stability of the region’s societies.

The workshop will continue until September 19, focusing on developing effective strategies and legislation to curb drug smuggling, while fostering collaboration and information exchange among GCC countries.
