The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) hosted the annual "Hayat Congress" for organ donation and transplantation in Dubai from January 29 to 30.

The event, held under the theme "Increasing availability, ethical access and oversight of transplantation of human cells, tissues and organs," highlighted the UAE’s commitment to advancing organ donation as part of its humanitarian values and sustainability goals.

The congress aimed to promote organ donation both during life and posthumously, addressing key challenges and exploring solutions to enhance transplant success rates. Participants discussed the integration of artificial intelligence and modern technologies in improving surgical outcomes and streamlining case management. Ethical and legal considerations, including the regulation of transplant practices for transparency and fairness, were also covered.

Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of the Health Regulations Sector, emphasized the UAE’s leadership in adopting cutting-edge technologies and practices in healthcare. Dr. Ali Abdulkarim Al Obaidli, Chairman of the National Committee for Organ Transplantation, noted the success of the congress's second edition and its role in fostering global collaboration to advance organ transplantation.

The congress also aimed to strengthen international partnerships, facilitating the exchange of expertise and supporting the development of transplantation practices worldwide.

MoHAP recently announced that the UAE achieved 352 organ transplants in 2024, a 22% increase from the previous year. Since the launch of the national transplant program in 2017, the UAE has performed 956 transplants, solidifying its position as a leader in the region with the highest organ utilization rates among GCC countries.
