President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a Federal Decree-Law amending key provisions of the Federal Judicial Authority Law. These changes aim to enhance the structure and jurisdiction of the Federal Judiciary in the UAE.
One significant amendment grants the rank of Minister, along with corresponding allowances and benefits, to both the President of the Federal Supreme Court and the UAE Attorney-General. This elevates their status in line with Federal Government legislation.
The Decree-Law also outlines that the salaries, allowances, bonuses, and other benefits for members of the Federal Judiciary will be determined by Federal Decree. Similarly, rewards for judicial members will follow the same framework.
Jurisdictional updates include expanded oversight for the Federal Attorney-General. Crimes affecting the Union’s interests, alongside other cases assigned under UAE law, fall under their purview. The Federal Attorney-General will also define jurisdictional divisions of prosecution offices, subject to Federal Judicial Council approval.
Additional amendments allow the Federal Attorney-General to decide workplace locations and jurisdictional divisions for Public Prosecution members. A technical office comprising prosecution members will oversee operations across all Emirates.
Appointments of Presidents for Courts of First Instance and Courts of Appeal will now require recommendations from the Head of the Judicial Inspection Department and Federal Judiciary approval. Similarly, the Federal Attorney-General will appoint Public Prosecutors and senior officials with the Judiciary’s endorsement.
These amendments are expected to strengthen the UAE’s legal system by enhancing judicial efficiency and clarifying jurisdictional responsibilities.
