The UAE will make Artificial Intelligence a formal subject in all public schools starting the 2025–2026 academic year, marking a major step in shaping future-ready education.
From kindergarten to grade 12, students will study AI through a curriculum designed to build skills in data, algorithms, ethics, innovation, and real-world applications. Around 1,000 trained teachers will lead the programme, which is tailored to the developmental needs of each age group.
The initiative reflects the country’s vision of preparing young generations to adapt to global changes and drive innovation. By embedding AI directly into school curricula, the UAE positions itself among the world’s first nations to establish artificial intelligence as a dedicated subject.
The academic year will begin on August 25, 2025, with other reforms also in place. Private schools will implement mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education, and social concepts in kindergarten, reinforcing national identity and values from an early age.
In addition, the Ministry of Education has introduced a new standardised proficiency test for grades 4 to 11 in public schools. Covering Arabic, Mathematics, and English, the test will initially assess 26,000 students to identify strengths and learning gaps, ensuring a stronger foundation in core subjects.
