UAE Introduces New Haj and Umrah Regulations; Violations May Incur Fines Up to Dh50,000

The UAE has introduced new regulations requiring operators to obtain approval from the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments before accepting applications for Haj or Umrah. Violations can result in fines up to Dh50,000. The rules aim to regulate pilgrimage organizations, ensuring operators are licensed and prohibiting unlicensed donation collections.

Licensed operators support the regulations, highlighting the deterrent effect on illegal activities. Kabeer Master of Al Yarmook Hajj, Umrah, and Travel, and Noushad Hassan of Alhind Business Centre, emphasize the importance of using legal channels and checking the licenses of travel agents to avoid falling for fraudulent schemes. The new rules will help prevent illegal entry and ensure pilgrims use authorized operators.

Haj is a significant Islamic pilgrimage required once in a lifetime for physically and financially able Muslims. The pilgrimage coincides with Eid Al Adha, involving various rituals and charitable acts. Pilgrims are selected through an electronic lottery for a safe and organized journey.
