Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber concluded an official visit to Tokyo this week aimed at deepening economic, industrial, and strategic cooperation between the UAE and Japan, reinforcing the long-standing partnership between the two countries.
The visit, held on 16 and 17 December, included high-level meetings with senior Japanese government officials and chief executives from leading private-sector companies. Discussions focused on expanding collaboration across priority sectors, including energy, industry, advanced technology, trade, and investment. The meetings were attended by Shihab Ahmed Al Fahim, UAE Ambassador to Japan.
Dr Al Jaber met with Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, where both sides reaffirmed the strength of bilateral relations and their shared commitment to advancing cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework. The talks reviewed ongoing collaboration and explored ways to further support regional stability and mutual economic interests.
In a separate meeting with Ryosei Akazawa, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, discussions centred on conventional and renewable energy, advanced technology, and industrial cooperation. Both sides also reviewed progress in negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which aims to enhance trade flows and unlock new opportunities for private-sector partnerships.
The visit also included engagements with the Japan Cooperation Centre for the Middle East and executives from major Japanese companies, including Cosmo Energy Group, INPEX, JERA, Mitsui & Co., and Mizuho Financial Group.
Bilateral trade between the UAE and Japan reached $49.6 billion in 2024, with non-oil trade growing steadily. In the first nine months of 2025 alone, non-oil trade rose by more than 21 percent, underscoring the momentum of the economic relationship.
