The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has unveiled a major AED750 million project to expand Emirates Road, aiming to tackle growing traffic congestion and support national development goals.
The project will widen a 25-kilometre stretch of Emirates Road from Al Badee Interchange in Sharjah to Umm Al Quwain, increasing capacity from three to five lanes in each direction. Once completed, the road will accommodate up to 9,000 vehicles per hour—a 65% boost in capacity.
Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2025 and will take two years to complete. The project includes a full upgrade of Interchange No. 7 with six new directional bridges and additional collector roads, enhancing connectivity and safety across one of the UAE’s busiest routes.
According to the Ministry, travel times between Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, and Dubai could drop by up to 45%, easing the daily commute for thousands of residents and improving the movement of goods and services.
Minister Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei said the initiative is part of the country’s long-term strategy to build resilient, sustainable infrastructure that aligns with the UAE’s economic and environmental objectives.
Officials emphasized that the development will adhere to global engineering standards, supporting the UAE’s ambition to be a global leader in transport infrastructure and sustainable mobility.
