The Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood has launched the Emirati Children’s Day Guide 2026, introducing the theme “The Right to Digital Knowledge” as part of national efforts to prepare children for an increasingly digital world while strengthening their protection online.
Observed annually on March 15, Emirati Children’s Day is held under the directives of Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi, widely known as the Mother of the Nation. The newly released guide provides a framework for government entities, schools and community organisations to organise programmes and initiatives throughout the year aligned with the 2026 theme.
The document reflects the UAE’s broader vision of placing children at the centre of national development by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate digital environments safely and responsibly. It emphasises a shift from simply providing access to technology to enabling children to understand digital tools, evaluate online content and protect their privacy and identity.
According to the guide, children in the UAE are growing up in a highly connected environment shaped by artificial intelligence, digital platforms and online learning. In response, the country has introduced artificial intelligence into government school curricula from kindergarten through Grade 12 starting with the 2025–2026 academic year.
The guide also highlights the challenges of rapid digital expansion, including exposure to misinformation, cyberbullying and privacy risks. Data cited in the document indicates that around 72 percent of children aged eight to 12 use smartphones daily.
Al Reem bint Abdullah Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, said the theme reflects the need to raise awareness about technological transformation and ensure children understand both the opportunities and risks of the digital age.
She added that empowering children with digital knowledge requires coordinated efforts from families, schools, government entities and the wider community to build a generation capable of engaging responsibly in a rapidly evolving digital society.
