UAE Launches First Phase of Blue Visa for Sustainability Leaders

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in partnership with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP), has unveiled the Blue Visa system during the World Government Summit 2025 in Dubai.

The Blue Visa is a 10-year residency permit designed to recognize individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability.

What is the Blue Visa?

The Blue Visa honors global leaders, innovators, and advocates in sustainability and environmental protection. In its first phase, 20 distinguished individuals will be granted the visa, including:

  • Members of international organizations and NGOs
  • Environmental activists and researchers
  • Global award winners
  • Representatives of international corporations supporting environmental efforts

Sustainability advocates can apply for the Blue Visa through the ICP website or mobile application or be nominated by UAE authorities.

Why the Blue Visa Matters

The initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to fostering innovation and leadership in sustainability. Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, said:

“This initiative aims to leverage the expertise of exceptional individuals to achieve ambitious national goals and build a sustainable future for the UAE and the world.”

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of ICP, emphasized the visa’s seamless application process, available 24/7 through digital platforms.

Part of a Broader Vision

The Blue Visa complements the UAE’s Golden and Green residencies, reinforcing the nation’s role as a global leader in innovation and environmental sustainability. By attracting top talent, the UAE aims to drive its sustainability agenda and build a brighter, greener future for generations to come.
