The UAE has unveiled its National Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system, a pioneering digital platform designed to track greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants across the country.

The launch, held during GITEX GLOBAL 2025 in Dubai, marks a major step in the nation’s drive to achieve NetZero by 2050 and enhance environmental governance.

The system is the first of its kind in the region, providing a unified and reliable database to guide evidence-based policymaking. It consolidates data from federal ministries, local governments, and private sector partners, enabling all stakeholders to monitor progress towards climate and air quality targets.

Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, described the MRV system as a “quantum leap in environmental governance,” emphasizing its role in supporting the UAE’s NetZero 2050 Strategy and the National Air Quality Agenda 2031. She highlighted the system’s ability to transform complex, bureaucratic processes into streamlined, automated workflows, reducing emissions reporting time from 15 months to just three.

Officials from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah praised the platform for enhancing transparency, standardizing emissions measurement, and promoting sustainable decision-making.

Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi emphasized the MRV system’s value in integrating local data with national and international climate commitments.

Developed over four years, the system underwent rigorous testing and pilot phases to ensure accuracy and usability. It also allows the private sector to track decarbonization progress, supporting broader sustainability goals while reducing administrative burdens.

The National MRV system exemplifies the UAE’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and climate leadership, providing a model for global best practices in environmental monitoring and governance.
