Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation and the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme have announced the second edition of the ‘House of the Future’ competition.
This global initiative invites architects and designers to create an affordable, expandable, and innovative house within a budget of AED 800,000, designed to be adaptable to various topographies across the UAE.
The competition, managed by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, is being conducted in collaboration with international and local partners. The Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme will implement the winning designs in future housing projects, offering technical and engineering support. Additionally, the winning designs will be displayed on the Darek platform, enabling UAE citizens to build cost-effective homes while saving time.
Suhail bin Mohammed Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasized the government’s commitment to sustainable urban development, while Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, highlighted the competition’s role in fostering innovation to improve the quality of life in the UAE.
This year’s edition will again challenge participants to incorporate sustainability, cultural heritage, and environmental adaptability into their designs. The winner will receive AED 500,000, with additional prizes for runners-up and the most innovative use of sustainable materials. Submissions are open until June 2, 2025.
The competition’s jury includes renowned architects such as Charles Walker of Zaha Hadid Architects and Ben van Berkel of UNStudio, ensuring a high standard of excellence. The first edition, which received 3,500 entries from 140 countries, demonstrated the growing global interest in future-focused, sustainable housing solutions.
