The United Arab Emirates will celebrate Emirati Women’s Day tomorrow, honouring the contributions of women who have played a central role in the nation’s progress under the support of its leadership.
This year’s celebration carries the theme “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years,” marking the golden jubilee of the General Women’s Union, founded by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, widely recognised as the pioneer of the UAE’s women’s movement.
Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the GWU, said the day reflects five decades of accomplishments and reaffirms the country’s commitment to empowering women as essential partners in national development.
The UAE has introduced landmark reforms, including equal pay legislation and the launch of the UAE National Strategy for Women Empowerment 2023–2031. Today, women hold 50 percent of Federal National Council seats, 26 percent of ministerial positions, and play leading roles across government, business, science and technology.
With more than 25,000 businesswomen, 46 percent of STEM graduates, and a strong presence in space, diplomacy and entrepreneurship, Emirati women stand as a cornerstone of the nation’s growth. Their influence now extends globally through initiatives supporting women’s empowerment, peace and security.
As the UAE marks this milestone, Emirati Women’s Day reflects not only past achievements but also a shared vision for the future, built on equality, opportunity and national partnership.
