The UAE Media Council has issued a clear warning that using artificial intelligence to depict national symbols or public figures without prior approval is a violation of the country’s media content standards.

In its statement, the Council underscored that the misuse of AI and similar tools to spread misinformation, incite hate speech, defame individuals, or undermine societal values will be treated as a media offence. Offenders could face fines and administrative penalties under the Media Violations Regulation.

The authority stressed that AI-generated or digitally altered content which damages reputations or distorts facts carries the same weight of accountability as other forms of harmful media activity.

The Council called on social media users, media organisations, and content creators to exercise caution and responsibility when adopting new technologies. It urged full compliance with laws and professional ethics to ensure that innovation in media is not misused to threaten social cohesion or national integrity.

By reinforcing these standards, the UAE Media Council seeks to balance technological advancement with the protection of values, trust, and respect within the country’s media landscape.
