UAE Ministry of Health Partners with Novo Nordisk to Combat Obesity
The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced a strategic partnership with Novo Nordisk Pharma Gulf to address obesity and cardiovascular diseases in the UAE.
The agreement was formalized at MoHAP’s headquarters with Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand and Jay Thyagarajan signing the deal. Attendees included Dr. Nada Al Marzouqi and Dr. Buthaina Bin Belaila from the Ministry.
This collaboration aims to develop a comprehensive national guide for obesity and weight management, integrating innovations and expertise from Novo Nordisk. The initiative is part of MoHAP’s broader strategy to enhance public health and support the national plan for early detection and management of non-communicable diseases.
Dr. Al Rand highlighted the importance of obesity prevention as a national priority, aligning with the UAE government’s commitment to improving public health. He emphasized the role of the partnership in providing advanced treatments and dietary recommendations, aligning with the National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031.
Dr. Buthaina Bin Belaila noted that the guide will leverage regional and global guidelines to better combat obesity and related conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. She also underscored the need for improved collaboration between federal, local agencies, and the private sector to enhance competitiveness and health outcomes.
Jay Thyagarajan expressed pride in the partnership, looking forward to contributing Novo Nordisk’s global expertise to enhance healthcare delivery and promote healthy lifestyles in the UAE.
The agreement marks a significant step in MoHAP’s efforts to foster healthier communities, reduce the impact of non-communicable diseases, and ultimately improve the quality of life for UAE residents.
