The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure revealed on Thursday that some mosques in the UAE will soon feature electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. This initiative is being implemented in partnership with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat (Awqaf) as part of an energy efficiency program in mosques.
According to the ministry, this move aligns with its ongoing efforts to boost energy efficiency, promote environmental sustainability, and reduce emissions in the buildings sector. It also supports green mobility initiatives by creating the necessary infrastructure for EV usage.
In related news, two private companies were recently granted licenses to operate EV charging stations, further expanding the nation’s EV infrastructure.
