In a significant move to address global legislative challenges in an era of rapid technological advancements, the UAE Government and the World Economic Forum (WEF) announced the establishment of the Global Regulatory Innovation Platform (GRIP).
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this initiative was signed during the 55th Annual Meeting of the WEF, held from January 20–24, 2025, in Davos.
H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, attended the signing ceremony alongside high-profile dignitaries. Maryam bint Ahmed Al Hammadi, UAE Minister of State and Secretary-General of the Cabinet, and Alois Zwinggi, WEF Managing Director, represented their respective organizations.
GRIP aims to develop human-centered legislative frameworks that keep pace with technological and digital advancements. The platform will support international collaboration on flexible governance models, provide tools to evaluate legislative readiness, and enhance the capacity of policymakers and legislative professionals worldwide.
“This partnership reflects the vision of President H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It reinforces the UAE’s role as a global hub for innovation, international cooperation, and sustainable development,”
said Al Hammadi.
Key initiatives under GRIP include the Future-Readiness Index for Legislation, the Global Guide for Regulatory Innovation, and hosting the Global Legislative Forum. The UAE’s recent success in modernizing over 80% of its national legislation underscores its commitment to fostering innovation and adaptability.
GRIP solidifies the UAE’s position as a leader in regulatory innovation, providing a global platform for sharing expertise and advancing legislative excellence.
