Chad has secured US$20.5 billion, covering two-thirds of the funding for its five-year National Development Plan, Chad Connection 2030, through partnerships and agreements signed during the UAE–Chad Trade and Investment Forum in Abu Dhabi.

The forum, held on November 10–11, marked the global launch of Chad Connection 2030, a plan aimed at driving economic growth, strengthening global trade ties, and advancing sustainable development.

Over two days, 40 memoranda of understanding were signed with private sector entities in key sectors such as energy, agriculture, mining, textiles, tourism, education, and manufacturing. The agreements form part of Chad’s strategy to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment.

Chad also secured financing commitments from 30 international donors and financial institutions, including the World Bank Group, the Islamic Development Bank, the African Development Bank, the Arab Bank for the Economic Development of Africa, and Afreximbank.

During the forum, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, announced that negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and Chad had been completed, with finalisation expected by year-end.

Chad’s President, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, said the US$20.5 billion in funding demonstrates strong global confidence in Chad’s reform agenda and confirms the achievability of its US$30 billion goal.

Chad Connection 2030 focuses on infrastructure development, governance reform, social progress, and the promotion of industries under the “Made in Chad” initiative, setting the foundation for long-term economic transformation.
