The UAE has secured a top 10 spot in the Global AI Competitiveness Index, emerging as one of the countries with the highest number of AI companies per million population.
This recognition highlights the nation’s growing prominence in the global AI landscape, placing it alongside renowned innovation hubs like Singapore and Hong Kong.
The report, compiled by the International Finance Forum (IFF) and Deep Knowledge Group, analyzed over 55,000 AI companies worldwide, evaluating factors like company density, financing, and development. Dmitry Kaminskiy, General Partner of Deep Knowledge Group, praised the UAE’s strategy, stating,
“Targeted investments are creating an ecosystem where AI innovation thrives, turning strategic vision into measurable impact.”
The UAE’s journey to AI excellence has been supported by strategic government initiatives. In 2017, the UAE became the first country to appoint an AI Minister, reflecting its commitment to embedding AI into national strategy. The nation’s AI Strategy 2031 aims to contribute AED 335 billion (USD 91 billion) to GDP by 2031, with a focus on cutting operational costs through AI.
The UAE is also attracting global talent through initiatives like the Golden Visa program for AI professionals and the establishment of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI). With over 90% 5G coverage and an advanced digital infrastructure, the country is a fertile ground for AI innovation.
A prime example of this success is Abu Dhabi-based G42, a leader in AI across healthcare, finance, and smart cities. In 2024, Microsoft invested USD 1.5 billion in G42, further solidifying the UAE's position as a global AI powerhouse.
With its robust infrastructure, strategic investments, and talent development, the UAE is poised to lead the AI revolution on the world stage.
