A foreign resident holding a standard two-year visa in the UAE can sponsor their children under specific conditions outlined in the country’s residency laws.
Under Article 9 of Federal Law by Decree No. (29) of 2021 regarding Entry and Residence of Foreigners, expatriates with valid residence permits are eligible to sponsor their family members, provided they meet the legal requirements set by the executive regulations.
As per Article 54 of Cabinet Resolution No. (65) of 2022, a resident can sponsor:
- Sons under 25 years old
- Unmarried daughters without age restrictions
- Children with special needs, regardless of age
The duration of the residency permit for family members will not exceed that of the sponsor. This means the validity of their visas will always be linked to the sponsor’s visa duration.
For further clarification, residents can contact the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai or the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP).
