Schools across the region are gearing up for the February mid-term break, scheduled to begin mid-month.

The break duration varies by institution, with some schools offering a full week off from February 10 to 14, while others will have shorter breaks of three or two days, aligning with weekends to provide students and educators time to recharge.

Lisa Johnson, Principal of the American Academy for Girls, highlighted the importance of breaks in maintaining a balanced learning environment.

“Periodic breaks improve focus, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being,”

she said, emphasizing their role in effective education.

Neetha Shetty, Principal of Al Diyafah High School, noted,

“We have a one-week break from February 10-15. Around 60-70% of the curriculum for senior classes is covered before the break, while in primary classes, it’s 50-60%. January’s cooler weather also allows for sports activities.”

She added that breaks are vital for educators to recharge and prevent burnout.

Lisa Passante, Principal of Star International School, Al Twar, explained that school calendars are planned and approved in advance, allowing for effective curriculum coverage.

“Our mid-term break is from February 10-12. Shorter breaks this year help families with children in different schools align schedules.”

As Ramadan approaches in March, schools are also preparing for shorter workdays while adapting syllabi to ensure balanced learning. The consensus among educators is clear: breaks not only rejuvenate students and teachers but also foster a productive and supportive educational environment.
