The United Arab Emirates (UAE) shines as a beacon of progress, climbing an impressive 31 places in the rankings, now sitting at 53rd place.
This improvement is attributed to the UAE's efforts to enhance diplomatic ties with nations like Iran and Turkey, as well as fostering stronger relations across the region and into South Asia.
Iceland maintains its position as the most peaceful country, a title it has held since 2008, with Ireland, Austria, New Zealand, and Singapore following closely behind. Conversely, Yemen now holds the unfortunate distinction of being the least peaceful nation, with Sudan, South Sudan, Afghanistan, and Ukraine also ranking low on the peace scale.
The report notes a worrying trend of deteriorating peace, with 97 countries experiencing a decline in peacefulness, the highest number since the GPI's inception in 2008. Additionally, there has been a significant increase in conflicts spilling beyond national borders, involving 92 countries, the highest recorded figure in the GPI's history.
On the flip side, countries like El Salvador, Nicaragua, Greece, and Myanmar have made strides in improving their peace rankings.
