Foreign yachts sailing between Abu Dhabi and Dubai will soon benefit from a simplified and unified administrative process, strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading global maritime destination.

From January 2026, a new protocol will allow seamless inter-emirate travel by removing duplicated procedures and recognising sailing permits issued by either emirate.

The initiative follows extensive coordination between Abu Dhabi Maritime, the Dubai Maritime Authority at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, and several federal and local entities, including the National Guard, Dubai Customs, and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security. The collaboration reflects a shared goal to support the growth and integration of the UAE’s maritime sector.

Under the new framework, foreign yachts will no longer be required to complete separate local entry and exit procedures when travelling between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Sailing permits issued in one emirate will be automatically recognised in the other, reducing administrative burdens for vessel operators and visitors.

To support this streamlined process, authorities will use the Early Inquiry System Application Programming Interface to securely share vessel, crew, and passenger data. This digital integration is designed to eliminate repetitive checks while maintaining regulatory oversight and security standards.

Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the Dubai Maritime Authority, said the unified approach builds on Dubai’s experience in facilitating yacht visits and enhances the UAE’s standing as a world-class maritime hub. Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime, added that the initiative makes it easier for visitors to enjoy the country’s waters while boosting the competitiveness of both emirates.

Shipping agents will be notified ahead of the January 2026 rollout to ensure compliance with the new system, marking a significant step toward a more integrated and visitor-friendly maritime environment.
