Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, held a series of strategic bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G20 Energy Meetings in South Africa to advance global cooperation in clean energy and low-emission technologies.

Al Olama met with delegations from Singapore, Ireland, Germany, and Indonesia to discuss joint efforts in energy transition, hydrogen development, and energy efficiency. The discussions reinforced the UAE’s role as a key partner in driving sustainable energy solutions and supporting the global shift toward cleaner systems.

In talks with Singapore’s Energy Market Authority, Al Olama explored collaboration in peaceful nuclear energy, electricity interconnection, and liquefied natural gas, while also inviting Singapore to join the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance (GEEA), launched by the UAE.

Meetings with Ireland’s Director-General of EU and International Affairs, Philip Nugent, focused on renewable energy, clean technologies, and hydrogen development ahead of the upcoming UAE-Ireland Joint Economic Committee meeting in December.

With Germany’s Parliamentary State Secretary Stefan Wenzel, Al Olama discussed expanding cooperation on industrial decarbonisation and hydrogen supply chains, building on the Emirati-German Energy and Climate Partnership and related frameworks.

In discussions with Indonesia’s Director-General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Eniya Listiani Dewi, the two sides examined collaboration on building energy efficiency standards and incentive programs, with Al Olama extending an invitation for Indonesia to join GEEA.

The meetings underline the UAE’s ongoing commitment to international energy cooperation and its efforts to advance the objectives of the UAE Consensus and Sustainable Development Goal 7 by promoting clean, secure, and inclusive energy systems worldwide.
