Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to deepening maritime cooperation with the UAE, calling it a strategic partnership that enhances both nations’ global standing in the shipping and transport sector.

Speaking at the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2025 in Dubai, Kamal bin Mohammed Al-Junaidi, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), highlighted joint efforts between the two countries to advance sustainability, safety, and innovation in maritime transport.

Al-Junaidi underscored the Kingdom’s support for IMO initiatives such as IMO CARES, the GloNoise Partnership, Circular Letters, GloFouling Partnerships, and the Next Wave Seafarers Project, which provides training opportunities for personnel from island and developing nations using Saudi vessels.

He pointed to the achievements of Saudi Vision 2030, which has prioritised transport and logistics as a central pillar of development. This includes the expansion of smart ports, enhanced cargo handling systems, and investment in human capital to align with global industry trends and sustainability goals.

Al-Junaidi noted that Saudi Arabia now ranks first regionally and 20th globally in deadweight tonnage, with its vessels sailing under the Saudi flag in line with international safety standards. He added that the Kingdom remains committed to driving sustainable growth in maritime transport while actively engaging in environmental initiatives at the global level.

The two-day maritime forum in Dubai brought together global leaders and industry experts to discuss the future of shipping, underlining the Gulf region’s growing influence in shaping the industry’s sustainability agenda.
