The United Arab Emirates is strengthening its position as one of the world’s leading hubs for digital trade and e-commerce, supported by advanced logistics infrastructure, rapid government digitalisation, and a flexible regulatory environment that encourages global business expansion.

International reports highlight the country’s growing influence in cross border digital commerce. A report by Standard Chartered ranks the UAE among the most prepared global markets for digital trade, citing its strong digital ecosystem, clear regulations, and widespread adoption of modern technologies by businesses.

Market data reflects this growth. A study by Euromonitor International in cooperation with EZDubai found that the UAE’s e commerce market reached about AED 32.3 billion in 2024 and is expected to exceed AED 50.6 billion by 2029, representing a compound annual growth rate of 9.4 percent.

The country also plays a key role in the wider Middle East and North Africa digital economy. Regional e commerce activity reached around $34.5 billion in 2024 and is projected to rise to $57.8 billion by 2029, with the UAE acting as a major operational hub for supply chains and online trade.

According to Hemang Kapur, CEO of Shipa Freight, the UAE’s strategic location enables companies to reach more than two thirds of the global population within an eight hour flight radius. This advantage is supported by world class logistics assets such as Dubai International Airport and the major container hub at Jebel Ali Port operated by DP World.

Digital trade platforms have further accelerated operations. Dubai Customs reports that about 98 percent of customs transactions are now completed electronically, while digital delivery systems have reduced cargo release times from up to 48 hours to less than 10 minutes.

Experts say continued investment in automation, artificial intelligence, and smart logistics will further strengthen the UAE’s role as a global centre for digital commerce and intelligent supply chains.
