The Technology Innovation Institute is partnering with Space42 to develop the UAE’s first space-to-ground quantum communication network, marking a major step in the nation’s push to build next-generation secure digital infrastructure.
Signed at the Dubai Airshow, the agreement brings together TII’s research capabilities and Space42’s satellite systems to create a Quantum Key Distribution network that strengthens cybersecurity across ground and space domains. The collaboration aims to validate and demonstrate secure quantum communication links using satellite technology, setting the stage for future commercial deployment.
Under the framework, both organisations will co-develop and test key components ranging from R&D and payload development to satellite integration and ground operations. The project builds on TII’s ongoing work in quantum technologies and supports the UAE’s broader goal of advancing sovereign innovation in critical sectors.
Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, said the partnership marks a significant milestone in the country’s quantum journey, noting that it enhances national cyber resilience and positions the UAE as a leader in secure communications for the digital economy.
Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of Space Services at Space42, said the initiative aligns with the company’s strategy to lead in non-terrestrial network solutions by integrating advanced satellite capabilities with TII’s QKD technology.
The joint effort also focuses on developing national talent and strengthening the UAE’s role as a global hub for quantum-secure communication systems.
