Under the patronage of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Honourary President of the Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association (ERRA), the UAE will host the first International Conference on Reprographic Rights Management.
Scheduled for 19th to 20th February 2025, the event will bring together collective management organisations and experts in creative works' rights.
Organized by ERRA in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Economy and the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), the conference aims to highlight the importance of safeguarding intellectual property and its impact on the creative economy.
Sheikha Bodour emphasized the significance of the conference for both the UAE and the global creative sector, stating,
“Hosting this conference conveys the sincerity of our ambition to be a leading world platform for dialogue on creators’ rights.”
The UAE’s focus on intellectual property protection is part of its broader goal to empower creators and stimulate cultural and economic growth.
Majd Al Shehhi, Director of ERRA, noted that the conference underscores the UAE’s commitment to global dialogue on authors' rights and its aspiration to adopt best practices in the cultural and educational sectors.
The conference will provide a platform for experts to discuss issues such as collective management’s role in rights protection, unauthorized use of creative works, and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence. The second day will focus on sessions for universities, authors, and publishers, including expert insights on AI's role in reprographic rights.
This landmark event reflects the UAE’s dedication to enhancing its creative economy through robust intellectual property protection.
