The UAE has recorded a 275 percent rise in commercial licences for tourism-related sectors over the past five years, underscoring the country’s rapid growth as a global tourism hub.
By mid-September 2025, licences in tourism, hospitality, aviation, air transport, aviation technologies, and digital tourism solutions reached 39,546, according to Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri.
Speaking on World Tourism Day, Al Marri credited ongoing reforms to business and investment regulations for driving international interest and strengthening the UAE’s position as a destination for companies and investors. He reaffirmed that tourism remains central to the UAE’s long-term economic priorities, supported by the Tourism Strategy 2031 and initiatives such as the upcoming “World’s Coolest Winter” campaign.
The minister highlighted efforts to expand Emirati participation in the tourism workforce through training programmes, partnerships, and support for start-ups. He also pointed to rising investment opportunities in hospitality, travel, and aviation as key drivers of sustainable growth.
Strengthening global ties is another priority. In October, the UAE will host the “UAE–Africa Tourism Investment Summit” as part of the Future Hospitality Summit, aimed at deepening cooperation with African markets.
Regionally, Gulf tourism continues to play a strong role. The UAE welcomed 3.3 million visitors from GCC countries in 2024, led by Saudi Arabia with 1.9 million. Al Marri said the planned unified GCC tourist visa, set for a pilot launch in late 2025, will further integrate regional tourism and enhance the Gulf’s collective appeal.
