UAE: Flight and Hotel Rates Surge by Up to 20% for Last-Minute Winter Travel

As the UAE enters the winter holiday season, travel demand is surging, with rising interest in last-minute vacations and seacations.

However, procrastinators may face significantly higher costs, with airfares, hotel rates, and activities increasing by 15-20% due to high demand. Travel experts highlight that the period from mid-December to early January remains particularly expensive as schools close and residents travel for Christmas and New Year’s.

Europe continues to dominate as a top destination for UAE travellers, with Switzerland, France, and Germany leading the list.

“Ticket prices for European destinations have risen by 10-12%,”

said Rashida Zahid, VP of operations at musafir.com. New winter hotspots like Finland, Austria, and the Balkan countries are also gaining traction. For budget-friendly options, destinations like Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Armenia remain popular, while countries like Turkey are increasingly being used as transit stops to save costs.

The demand for Gulf cruises has also soared, with cruise liners like Costa and MSC witnessing increased bookings. Gulf cruises departing from Abu Dhabi to Qatar are particularly in demand.

"A cabin for three people, previously priced at Dh3,000, now costs Dh8,000,"

said Reena Philip, general manager of Airtravel Enterprises. Simplified visa processes and added perks, such as complimentary day passes, make these cruises an attractive alternative to traditional hotel stays.

With cooling weather and evolving travel preferences, UAE residents are embracing diverse vacation options, from winter getaways to seafaring adventures.
