As summer reaches its peak, many residents are faced with the dilemma of whether to book their vacations amid soaring travel costs.

Fortunately, there’s still an opportunity to plan a budget-friendly getaway, whether you’re eyeing a cultural escape to Europe, an adventure in Asia, or a tranquil staycation within the UAE.

According to recent research by Expedia, July is set to be the busiest travel month of the year, with peak travel days falling on July 11 and 19. However, travelers willing to postpone their trips until late August can reap substantial savings. Notably, August 27 and 30 emerge as the best days to snag deals.

Airfares: Significant Savings Await

A comparative analysis, leveraging data from Sky Scanner, Expedia, and Ease My Trip, reveals a considerable drop in airfare towards the end of August. For flights to Caucasian countries, the average round-trip fare is about Dh1,700 in July. This figure remains steady until the third week of August, but drops by nearly 20% in the last three days of the month.

European destinations also offer enticing discounts. Average airfares to France, Switzerland, the UK, and Sweden are approximately Dh1,000 for one-way travel in July. By late August, prices can decrease by around 30%, bringing one-way fares down to about Dh680.

Travelers eyeing Asian destinations, particularly India, will find even greater savings. The average airfare for one-way trips until mid-August is around Dh800. However, on August 28, fares plummet to Dh430, representing a 40% reduction.

Accommodation: Lower Costs in Late August

Expedia’s data highlights that July’s high demand for accommodation drives up prices, making it the priciest month to travel. In contrast, late August sees a drop in demand, leading to more favorable rates.

An analysis of Booking.com reveals that a three- to four-star hotel in Bangkok, typically costing Dh1,100 for four nights for two adults, sees a price reduction of up to 45% during the last week of August. Similarly, a four-star property in the Maldives, normally priced at Dh3,200 for a three-night stay, offers significant discounts towards the end of the month.

In Baku, Azerbaijan, a three-star hotel that costs Dh1,300 for three nights until August’s end drops to as low as Dh120 per night on August 28, 29, and 30.

Package Deals: Best Booked Early

Local travel agencies, such as Galadari International Travel Services, report that package prices also decrease towards the end of August. Mir Wasim Raja, the manager, explains that the return of many families and a decrease in travel activity as the academic year begins contribute to lower costs.

“Travelers should consider booking their packages early to benefit from these savings,”

Raja advises.

“Last-minute bookings might not offer the same level of discounts.”

In summary, while July is a peak travel month with higher costs, late August presents an excellent opportunity to enjoy significant savings on airfares, accommodations, and travel packages. Planning your vacation for the end of August could ensure a more affordable and enjoyable trip.
