UAE Unveils High-Speed Train Project Linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai

In a landmark announcement, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, unveiled the UAE’s first high-speed train project.

The initiative, supported by President H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was announced at a ceremony hosted by Etihad Rail at Al Faya Depot.

The high-speed train will connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just 30 minutes, reaching speeds of 350 km/h. This innovative project reflects the UAE’s commitment to sustainable development, aligning with the Net Zero 2050 Strategy. Designed to integrate cutting-edge technologies, the train will elevate transport infrastructure, improve quality of life, and unlock opportunities in logistics, tourism, and business. Over the next 50 years, it is expected to contribute AED 145 billion to the UAE’s GDP.

“This project advances national infrastructure and supports the UAE’s global competitiveness,”

said H.H. Sheikh Khaled.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the project’s transformative potential, noting its role in setting new global benchmarks for transportation.

The announcement also included the unveiling of the UAE’s passenger train fleet, capable of speeds up to 200 km/h, and the first four passenger stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. These stations will offer state-of-the-art facilities, including business lounges and retail outlets, while integrating with metro and bus networks for seamless connectivity.

Etihad Rail will oversee the project, building on its achievements in developing a national rail network. The high-speed train is poised to strengthen socioeconomic ties, enhance tourism, and position the UAE as a global leader in sustainable transport solutions.
