The Artificial Intelligence Office in the UAE has launched UAE Vibe Codes, an initiative that lets people turn ideas into websites and apps using AI in minutes, with no programming experience needed.
It drew 5,000 participants within its first hour.
Launched in collaboration with Microsoft, the initiative is part of UAE Codes Day, marked every year on October 29. This year’s theme is “Vibe Coding”, an approach in which users guide AI tools through natural language to build software, with the focus on the idea and the outcome rather than the code.
Participants describe what they want on uaecodesday.specnt.com and AI tools turn it into a working prototype. Examples include a website to solve a workplace challenge, an app to organise daily tasks or a digital tool for a startup. The invitation is open to everyone in the UAE, including students, educators, entrepreneurs and employees in the public and private sectors.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, said the true value of AI lies in expanding human innovation and turning ideas into reality. He added that the day gives the public a chance to take part in shaping the digital future.
Hands-on workshops are being run with partners including Google, Emirates Global Aluminium, Siemens and IBM. Emaar and cinemas across the country are promoting the experience on their digital screens, while government and private entities such as the Ministry of Education, RTA, Etisalat UAE, du, Emirates Health Services and Emirates NBD are also taking part.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum directed in October 2021 that October 29 be marked annually as UAE Codes Day, commemorating the launch of the region’s first e-government initiative on the same date in 2001. In November 2023, UNESCO adopted the UAE’s proposal to designate the date as the International Day of Programming.
