The electronic game and e-sports sector in the UAE is on the brink of substantial growth, driven by strategic initiatives and partnerships aimed at establishing the country as a global hub by 2033.

A recent report by Statista's Insights predicts the UAE's electronic gaming market will soar to approximately $492 million by 2027, with a steady annual growth rate of 5.88%. The number of gamers is expected to reach 1.7 million within the same period.

To capitalize on this momentum, Dubai has launched the "Programme for Gaming 2033," which targets positioning the emirate among the top 10 gaming hubs worldwide. The initiative is designed to enhance the gaming sector’s contribution to Dubai's digital economy, potentially boosting GDP by $1 billion by 2033. It will focus on developing talent, content, and technology, while creating a global platform for digital creators in partnership with international companies and academic institutions.

Additionally, Dubai has introduced the "Dubai Gaming Visa" to attract talent and encourage innovation. The emirate will host the Games of the Future 2025, set for autumn 2025, bringing together thousands of athletes and e-sports professionals from up to 100 countries.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi is enhancing its competitive edge by attracting leading developers and companies. The Abu Dhabi Investment Office has supported Tamatem Games in relocating its headquarters, bolstering the local gaming ecosystem, which includes over 70 content-creating companies. Strategic collaborations with industry giants like Ubisoft highlight Abu Dhabi’s focus on innovation.

As the region gears up for rapid advancements in e-sports, events like the Shams Gaming Championship in Sharjah illustrate the growing enthusiasm among gamers and investors alike, paving the way for a vibrant future in the UAE’s gaming industry.
