UAEU Launches UAE's First Academic Stem Cells Research Centre

Under the patronage of Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the institution has inaugurated the UAE's first Stem Cells Research Centre.

This cutting-edge facility marks a significant leap forward in advancing healthcare and innovation in regenerative medicine, aligning with national efforts to enhance the UAE’s position in global medical sciences.

The new centre is set to support groundbreaking research into stem cell therapies, enhance manufacturing capabilities, and foster international partnerships. As part of the UAE's strategy to lead the Middle East's growing stem cell market, expected to rise from USD 711.8 million in 2024 to USD 1.3 billion by 2030, the centre will play a pivotal role in promoting scientific and medical advancements.

Prof. Fatma Al Jasmi, Acting Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAEU, praised the initiative, stating,

"The opening of the Stem Cell Research Centre is a significant achievement, reflecting our commitment to fostering innovation and training the next generation of Emirati scientists. Our goal is to enhance the UAE's global leadership in regenerative medicine."

The centre’s initiatives include developing innovative treatments and supporting clinical trials, with notable collaboration from the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre. Active since 2019, this partnership has funded research, initiated clinical trials, and facilitated knowledge exchange.

The Stem Cells Research Centre is a cornerstone of the UAE's ambition to become a global hub for regenerative medicine, contributing to the nation’s vision of world-class healthcare and a knowledge-based economy.
