UK Businesses Eye Middle East as Key Investment Destination
UK businesses are increasingly viewing the Middle East as a prime investment hub, with interest in the region doubling in recent years, according to new research by Pagefield.
The study reveals that 36% of UK business leaders now consider the Middle East a top investment destination over the next five years, compared to just 18% who previously invested in the region. Meanwhile, Asia is also gaining traction, with UK firms' interest rising from 22% to 32% as they seek to expand their global footprint.
Global Investment Trends
Despite this shift, Europe remains the leading destination for UK businesses, with 55% identifying it as their primary overseas investment focus. The US market remains stable, with 42% of businesses currently investing there, compared to 45% with future investment plans. However, new trade tariffs under President Trump’s administration have introduced uncertainties that could affect future UK-US trade deals.
Strategic Growth in Emerging Markets
Christopher Clark, Partner at Pagefield, emphasized the shifting outlook:
"The data shows a clear shift in UK businesses' global outlook. While Europe remains a top priority, the sharp rise in interest in the Middle East and Asia signals a growing appetite for new, high-potential markets. Businesses are looking beyond traditional hubs and seeking opportunities in regions that offer both economic dynamism and strategic advantages."
Call for Government Support
The report also highlights strong demand for government intervention to facilitate overseas expansion. 83% of UK businesses believe that the British government must do more to support international investments. Additionally, 31% of respondents identified Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) as the most critical mechanism to enable global expansion.
As UK businesses explore new opportunities in the Middle East and Asia, strategic government policies and trade agreements will play a crucial role in shaping future investment trends.
