The Emirates News Agency (WAM) today signed five new cooperation agreements with major Latin American media establishments, as part of its efforts to promote the UAE’s cultural and humanitarian message around the world in different languages.
The agreements, which were signed at Expo 2020 Dubai, were signed with Mexican TV network ONCE, Brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, Brazilian news agency Folhapress, Brazilian website UOL-Universo Online, and TV channel TeleCuraçao in Curaçao, in the southern Caribbean Sea.
The signing of these agreements is part of WAM’s efforts to strengthen its cooperation with equivalent international institutions and increase its global exposure. WAM has signed over 19 international agreements at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The agreements were signed by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM; Carlos Brito Lavalle, Managing Director of ONCE; Roberto Dias, Managing Editor of Folha de S. Paulo; Paulo Samia, CEO of UOL; and Hugo Lew Jen Tai, Director-General of TeleCuraçao; and the representative of the Director-General of Folhapress.
The agreements encourage professional media cooperation between WAM and the respective media establishments in exchanging news and media content and establishing sustainable partnerships and improving relations between media establishments in the UAE and the Americas.
According to the agreements, the relevant parties will exchange daily news in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic, along with images and videos, for use and distribution on their platforms and those of their partners around the world. Relevant media materials can also be shown in their newsletters and distributed to their various media outlets in their countries.
Al Rayssi said the signing of such key agreements with major media establishments in Latin America at Expo 2020 Dubai is significant, as they underscore the major success of the most important cultural event held in the UAE, which enhances its international cooperation in various sectors.
He also pointed out that strengthening its cooperation with international media establishments is part of WAM’s strategy to increase its geographical exposure, to promote the UAE’s cultural message around the world. He noted that the success of Expo 2020 Dubai highlights the vision and directives of the UAE’s leadership and the country’s successful strategies.
He also expressed his happiness at the participation of the Latin American media establishments in the Global Media Congress, which will be hosted by Abu Dhabi in November 2022.
The representatives of the Latin American media establishments said that enhancing their media cooperation with WAM will enable them to benefit from the international economic, development and humanitarian activities of the UAE, being a key centre of the global decision-making process.
They also expressed their admiration for the UAE’s success in hosting Expo 2020 Dubai over six months.
