H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Ports and Borders Security Council, visited the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) from October 1-3 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the event features over 2,800 companies from 65 countries.
Welcomed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Sheikh Mansoor toured the exhibition, exploring advancements in energy, water desalination, green technology, and environmental sustainability. He visited DEWA’s stand, where he learned about the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest single-site solar park utilizing the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. The park's fourth phase incorporates three hybrid technologies, producing 600MW from a parabolic basin complex, 100MW from a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) tower, and 250MW from photovoltaic panels. The project is notable for its 263.126-meter solar tower and record-breaking thermal energy storage of 5,907 megawatt hours.
Sheikh Mansoor also received updates on the 1,800MW sixth phase of the Solar Park, with AED 5.5 billion in investments. This phase aims to power approximately 540,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 2.36 million tonnes annually.
The visit included insights into pioneering projects at DEWA’s Research and Development Centre and the Aquifer Storage and Recovery project, which will store up to 6 billion imperial gallons of water. The Sheikh also explored The Green Mobility Hall, highlighting sustainable transport innovations, and toured displays from leading companies such as ENOC and ACWA Power, as well as international pavilions from Russia, Belarus, and Italy.
