The 26th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2024, held from 1st to 3rd October at the Dubai World Trade Centre, underscored the UAE’s commitment to tackling global climate challenges.
Aligned with the COP28 Pledge to triple global renewable energy generation by 2030, WETEX promoted energy efficiency, sustainability, and climate financing.
Organised by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, WETEX showcased innovative solutions from international companies, focusing on renewable energy, water security, and sustainability.
Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, COP28 President, emphasised the exhibition’s role in advancing the historic UAE Consensus, agreed upon during COP28 at Expo City Dubai in 2023. He noted,
“Tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030 is essential to achieving our climate goals.”
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, highlighted WETEX's pivotal role in supporting the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and driving multilateral collaboration on energy storage and efficiency.
“WETEX fosters critical partnerships and solutions for global climate aspirations,”
he stated.
International voices, including Gauri Singh from IRENA and UN Youth Advisory Group member Beniamin Strzelecki, called for unified global action, stressing the need for ambitious climate financing and the importance of youth advocacy.
WETEX 2024 cemented the UAE’s leadership in addressing climate change, pushing forward discussions on renewable energy, water, and sustainability, while reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.
