Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Governments Summit (WGS), has urged governments to adopt proactive strategies and outpace global changes in order to transform challenges into opportunities.

Speaking at the opening of the Ambassadors’ Retreat in the UAE, he said humanity is at a historic turning point that requires readiness and collaboration.

The Retreat, organised by the WGS Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gathered over 100 ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions. It served as a platform to exchange perspectives on strengthening international partnerships and building future-ready governments.

Al Gergawi highlighted the Summit’s role since its launch in 2013 as a global hub for government dialogue, noting its track record of hosting more than 100 heads of state, 3,000 speakers, and signing over 100 international agreements. He stressed the importance of diplomatic engagement in expanding the Summit’s reach and impact.

Reflecting on recent findings from the Global Ministers Survey, Al Gergawi pointed to pressing challenges facing governments worldwide, including resource constraints, talent retention, and preparedness for future disruptions. He called these results a “wake-up call” for collective action.

Looking ahead, he announced that the 2026 WGS will convene more than 6,000 leaders across governments, the private sector, and global institutions, with over 200 sessions and 15 strategic reports. The edition will also host the second Economic and Investment Forum in collaboration with Ecuador.

Through the Ambassadors’ Retreat and other initiatives, the WGS continues to position itself as the world’s largest platform for government cooperation, aiming to accelerate future-focused strategies and foster shared prosperity.
