World’s Largest Mosaic Mural Unveiled in Hatta to Honour UAE’s Founding Fathers
Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, in partnership with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has unveiled the world’s largest mosaic mural, the Zayed and Rashid Mural, in Hatta.
This monumental artwork pays tribute to the UAE’s founding fathers, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
Spanning an impressive 2,198.7 square meters, the mural adorns the Hatta Dam Water Falls and recreates a historic photograph of the leaders at the time of the UAE’s foundation. Recognized by Guinness World Records, the mosaic was crafted with 1.2 million hand-assembled pieces over four months, led by Russian artist Sergey Korbasov and a team of over 100 artisans.
The project, part of the Dubai Street Museum initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2016, highlights Dubai’s cultural identity and history. The mural aligns with the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, celebrating national milestones from Flag Day to the UAE’s 53rd National Day.
Mona Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Media Office, hailed the mural as a tribute to the UAE’s heritage and progress, while DEWA’s CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, emphasized its role in enhancing Hatta’s appeal as a cultural and tourist hub.
Set against the Hajar mountains, the mural incorporates local materials, blending art with the region’s natural beauty. The cascading waterfall and colours inspired by traditional Emirati attire further elevate its emotional resonance. This landmark artwork embodies the vision and values of the UAE’s founding fathers, inspiring future generations.
