YouTube TV is set to raise its base plan price yet again, marking a significant jump for subscribers. Starting December 12, 2024, for new users and January 13, 2025, for existing subscribers, the monthly price will increase from $72.99 to $82.99, a 13.7% hike. Google attributes the rise to increasing content costs.
YouTube TV offers over 100 live channels, including a cloud-based DVR with unlimited storage, up to six accounts per household, and concurrent streaming on up to three devices. However, additional features like 4K viewing remain add-ons, costing $9.99 per month.
This price bump comes at a time when consumers are increasingly scrutinizing their subscriptions. At $82.99 per month, YouTube TV now competes directly with traditional cable and satellite providers, many of whom offer bundle discounts for combining TV, internet, or mobile services. Alternatives like Sling TV start at $40 per month, though with fewer channels and perks.
For perspective, YouTube TV has more than doubled its price since its launch in 2017, raising questions about affordability for cost-conscious users navigating an ever-growing list of streaming options.
