The second day of the 10th edition of the World Green Economy Summit (WGES), held on 3rd October 2024, focused on key discussions around sustainability and the global green economy.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the event gathered global leaders, experts, and private sector representatives to explore clean energy, climate finance, decarbonisation, and the circular economy.
One key session, “Global Agricultural Production by 2050: How to Meet Growing Needs,” saw experts like Henry Gordon-Smith and Christine R. Gould discussing strategies to meet increasing food demand while reducing environmental impacts. Vertical farming and controlled environment systems emerged as pivotal innovations.
Another session, “Circular Economy Integration and Waste-Reduction,” highlighted the UAE’s 2021 Circular Economy Policy. Experts like Majed Al Marzouqi discussed the challenges of implementation, emphasizing collaboration among manufacturers and consumers.
The summit also tackled carbon credit markets and clean technology financing. Speakers highlighted the UAE’s commitment to tripling renewable energy by 2030, along with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park as a model of large-scale clean energy projects.
WGES continues to serve as a platform for global leaders to shape sustainable futures, emphasizing the urgent need for international collaboration and innovative policies.
