In a significant move towards promoting sustainability in the aviation sector, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), met with Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at integrating clean energy solutions into airport operations.
The meeting underscored both organizations' commitment to the UAE's vision for a sustainable future. Al Tayer emphasized the importance of aligning with government and private entities that share a commitment to environmental sustainability and achieving carbon neutrality.
“Our collaboration with Dubai Airports will enhance efforts to integrate renewable energy in aviation and improve energy efficiency at one of the world’s busiest international airports,”
he stated.
Dubai is on track to meet its Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, targeting 100 percent clean energy production by 2050. With an interim goal of achieving 25 percent clean energy by 2030, Al Tayer expressed confidence that this target would be surpassed. He highlighted DEWA’s role in leading the energy transition, notably through projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is set to become the world's largest single-site solar energy project with a total capacity of 4,660 MW by 2026.
Griffiths affirmed Dubai Airports’ dedication to sustainability, stating that the partnership with DEWA is crucial for bringing renewable energy into operations and minimizing the environmental footprint.
“This isn’t just about improving aviation; it is about building a future where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand,”
he remarked.
This collaboration marks a pivotal step in Dubai's journey toward a sustainable and carbon-neutral future.
