Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has commissioned 793 new 11kV substations across the emirate in the first six months of 2026, reinforcing the city's power infrastructure as new developments continue to reshape its skyline.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, announced the milestone, revealing that the construction and associated works involved 624,340 man-hours, all carried out under strict quality, efficiency and safety standards.
Al Tayer said the expansion reflects DEWA's efforts to keep pace with the growth of residential areas, commercial centres, investment projects and business hubs across Dubai. He added that the authority is working to anticipate future demand and strengthen the emirate's standing as a global leader in advanced infrastructure.
He also pointed to DEWA's adoption of the latest global technologies, which he said supports sustainable economic and urban growth while keeping the authority ahead of utilities worldwide. According to Al Tayer, DEWA recorded the world's lowest customer minutes lost for electricity this year, averaging just 0.82 minutes per customer annually, while its transmission and distribution losses stand at 2%, remaining the lowest globally.
Rashid Bin Humaidan, Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, provided further detail on the network's scale, confirming that Dubai now has 53 substations at 33kV and 47,723 medium voltage substations, spanning both 11kV and 6.6kV, currently in service.
The latest additions form part of DEWA's ongoing programme to expand and modernise the emirate's power network, supporting Dubai's rapid urban development while maintaining the high reliability standards the authority has become known for internationally.
