Dubai has completed its first purpose-built Air Taxi station near Dubai International Airport, marking a major step toward launching electric air mobility services and reinforcing the emirate’s position as a global hub for innovation.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said the milestone reflects Dubai’s long-term vision to lead the future of urban mobility through advanced, integrated transport systems. The announcement coincided with World Public Transport Day on April 17.
The four-storey station, spanning 3,100 square metres, is designed to handle up to 170,000 passengers annually. It features two take-off and landing pads, dedicated charging infrastructure for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, and climate-controlled passenger facilities.
Developed by Skyports Infrastructure, the station will serve as the main hub for air taxi operations. Joby Aviation will oversee aircraft manufacturing and service operations, while Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority will manage governance and integration with the wider transport network.
Officials confirmed that commercial Air Taxi services are expected to launch by the end of the year. Initial routes will significantly reduce travel times, including a 10-minute journey between Dubai International Airport and Palm Jumeirah, compared to approximately 45 minutes by car.
The fully electric aircraft, designed for zero emissions and low noise, is positioned as a sustainable alternative to traditional transport. Authorities say the project aligns with Dubai’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity, improve urban efficiency, and support environmentally friendly mobility solutions.
Additional stations are planned across key locations including Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina, forming the first phase of a wider network set to be operational by 2026.
