Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has launched the "Stories of Wulfa" competition, calling for an animated series inspired by Emirati culture, values, and traditions.
The winning project will receive AED2 million to fund its development, production, and showcase as part of the "Season of Wulfa."
The competition is designed to support local talent and encourage original visual content that reinforces cultural identity. Dubai Culture will accept entries until November 15, 2026, from artists, writers, illustrators, directors, designers, filmmakers, animation studios, and production companies, both local and international.
The proposed series should run 15 episodes of about 20 minutes each. Suggested themes include everyday life, family relationships, hospitality traditions, "Hag Al Laila," Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha, majlis culture, heritage, folk tales and games, and historical figures.
Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, said investing in original content is central to growing the cultural and creative industries and to advancing the animation sector specifically. She said the Authority wants to help local talent turn Emirati heritage into creative work that can compete regionally and globally.
Entries will be judged on storytelling quality, cultural authenticity and originality, visual direction and character development, production readiness, and broadcast potential.
